Trial Operation

Trial operation entails the final testing phase for systems and machinery and is therefore the full responsibility of the manufacturer. It takes place as part of the manufacturing process before the plant is put into operation.

During this phase, SH² assigns responsibility to a trial operations manager and agrees with all those involved on the trial operation strategy. We ensure that all testing of the machinery and systems prior to the trial run, such as stability, power supplies, operational readiness of safety installations, correct operation of the drive control, measures for prevention of electric shock, etc., have been completed. We also assess hazards and risks, especially in overlapping and interlinked areas.

Essential operational tasks during trial operation

  • Assurance that all applicable protective measures are already effective during the first trial runs
  • Regulation of access to trial operation, identification of hazardous areas with warning signs, and designation of competent personnel with name and telephone number
  • Spatial separation of systems and machinery undergoing assembly from the trial operation
  • Definition of alternative measures and proof of effectiveness
  • Evidence of employee training and proof of effectiveness of training
  • Assurance of first aid, emergency routes, fire and environmental protection
  • Close coordination with the site or assembly manager and other appointed coordinators
